FUNDRAISING TOOLKIT

Why do we need your help?

As you know, Genesis relies on the generosity of our community to fund our cause to provide the best possible service to women and children seeking support from domestic violence, including access to trauma-informed therapies, emergency shelter, legal support, and access to essentials such as food, water, and clothing.

However, as we approach the end of the year, we are in need of a boost in support to help ensure that we can keep up the good work and provide services to our clients at no cost.

Social Media

Social media is a great way to bring attention to your fundraiser and raise awareness to your cause.

Follow Genesis Auxiliaries on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date on the latest updates throughout the campaign, and tag us to have your contribution featured on Genesis channels!

You can support your fellow auxiliary members with their fundraising initiatives by liking, commenting, story posting, or resharing their posts. Interacting with other’s posts increases the likelihood of engagement with both of your audiences, and helps motivate others to join in on the fundraiser!

Social Media Best Practices

  • Personalize your ask: Share why the Genesis mission is important to you. Customize captions to reflect your own personal connection to the cause, and share why you believe its important for others to get involved.

  • Use visual storytelling: Use real photos of yourself, or of you engaging with your community.

  • Maintain confidentiality: Do not post photos that may endanger clients, including the exterior of shelter, any photos containing clients (including in the background), or any photos with children.

  • Post follow-ups: Keep your supporters engaged with follow up posts. Include updated numbers and any milestones you’ve achieved so far.

  • Tag us: Once you make your posts, tag @genesisauxiliaries on Instagram for a shoutout! Add your post to your story to be added to our highlights tab. Stories that do not tag @genesisauxiliaries cannot be added to the Genesis highlights tab. If you would like to share your testimony in a reel on the Genesis Auxiliaries page, please email spendarvis@genesisshelter.org.

  • Get creative: Feel free to have fun and create content that reflects your story! After saving a copy, you can customize the templates however you see fit, or make your own!

Email

Email is one of the most powerful tools you can use to engage with your network. A personalized, direct email is sure to drive engagement to your fundraiser.

We will be sending updates on the fundraiser to all auxiliary members through email as well as social media.

Email Best Practices

Be intentional: If sending mass emails, segment your potential donor list into smaller groups (ex. coworkers, friends, family members, social group members); try to customize the verbiage in your email to each of these groups to make it feel more direct and engaging.

Send follow ups: Allow your supporters to stay engaged with your fundraiser by sending follow up emails. Include updated numbers and any milestones you’ve achieved so far. Be sure to include the deadline for the fundraiser (October 31st) to promote a sense of urgency.

Thank your supporters: Thank your supporters through email, phone calls, or in person! This will help to ensure that they feel appreciated for their contribution.
