Let’s imagine for a moment: you’re a 20- or 30-something who wants to give back to the community. Amidst a sea of like-minded young professionals in Dallas, where can you make the greatest impact?

How young professionals can get involved in a Dallas nonprofit

In 2001, the Genesis Young Leaders auxiliary was founded as an outlet for young professionals interested in joining the fight against domestic violence. Members of the auxiliary are deeply invested in our mission, serving as our kitchen table ambassadors who help us raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence and what we’re doing to end the epidemic. They volunteer monthly with the children at our shelter, organize educational forums for members and host networking happy hours throughout the year. Next February, they will host our sixth annual Masquerade – a fabulous soiree that attracted 750 guests and raised nearly $200,000 this past year.

Beyond those efforts, the Genesis Young Leaders’ impact has created a ripple effect across our agency. One member is a former children’s therapist who set up a weekly musical therapy group at our shelter; another is a talented photographer who lent her services and provided free photo sessions for our families during the holidays. Some are attorneys who volunteer in our legal center; others are accountants and bankers who have provided financial literacy resources for clients. The list goes on and on.

Our CEO Jan Langbein often says each of us has the opportunity and obligation to do what we can with what we have. It is incredible to witness how the Genesis Young Leaders have done just that, and they serve among countless others who forged an intersection to match their skills and interests with our agency’s most pressing needs.

Nonprofit organizations like Genesis are fortunate to have passionate young leaders who are searching for an immersive, fulfilling role as a volunteer or board member. If you are between the ages of 20-40 and want to make a difference, consider joining Genesis Young Leaders and come share your talents with us. Find out which holes need to be filled and dive right in. Through the continued support of people like you, we are able to tell women and children every day that there is help and hope.
