From rocking babies to painting shelter rooms, volunteers are one of the largest assets Genesis Women’s Shelter has. It is always busy at Genesis and our need for great volunteers is constant!

Children's Department Weeknight PAL
Volunteers spend 1 hour with the children at our shelter or transitional housing facility, playing or facilitating a structured activity. Choose any night, Monday-Thursday from 7pm-8pm. Weekly commitment preferred, bi-monthly okay. 1 hour orientation and 1 hour of training required.

Hotline Assistant
Volunteers are needed to help answer Hotline calls at our Shelter and to assist staff with light office duties. Anytime, Monday-Sunday. 1 hour orientation and 7 hour training is required.

Resale Store Assistant
Volunteers are needed to help staff receive, sort, tag and display donated goods for sale in our stores Monday-Friday from 10am-5:30pm; Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm; Sunday 1:00pm-5:00pm. 3-4 hour shifts, please. 3419 Knight Street, 214-520-6644. 1 hour orientation.

Health Fair Representative
Volunteers represent Genesis at various Health Fairs in churches, schools and companies around town. Usually assisted by a staff person from GWS, this important position helps us to make the public aware of our facility and programs by handing out pamphlets, brochures, etc. and by answering questions. 1 hour orientation.

Court Partnership
Volunteers from GWS and other local DV shelters help to monitor the proceedings in Courts 10 and 11, the family violence courts for Dallas County. Flexible daytime schedule. 1 hour orientation and 2 hours training required.

Volunteer Orientations
The goal of orientation is to teach potential volunteers about the agency's structure, the programs and services offered, and to help them determine what volunteer opportunity best fits their schedule and interests. Once you have turned in your completed volunteer application, Murphey Sears, Volunteer Coordinator will contact you about upcoming orientation dates.

Volunteer Training
Volunteer training is available to any potential volunteer who has completed an application and attended Orientation. Each month, Genesis holds a one-hour special training session for new Children's Department volunteers. Hotline training is held quarterly and lasts for seven hours (three-and-a-half hours each night for two nights). Murphey Sears, Volunteer Coordinator, will schedule training sessions with approved volunteers.
