The Volunteer Process
Genesis appreciates all of our volunteers!
If you would like to start volunteering immediately without orientation, you can go to our thrift store, located at 3419 Knight Street. The store is open from Monday-Friday 10am-5:30pm, Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday from 1-5pm. You may stop by anytime it is open.
In order to become a Genesis Women's Shelter & Support volunteer certain steps must be completed.
- Volunteers at our Shelter must be 15 years of age or older.
- Complete the appropriate volunteer application.
Applications can be obtained by downloading the PDF file: Download the Volunteer Application
- Criminal Background Check - All Genesis employees and volunteers are subject to a criminal background check conducted by the Volunteer Center of North Texas.
- Once your application has been processed, our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you about attending an orientation and you'll be on your way.
Orientation
The goal of orientation is to teach potential volunteers about the agency's structure, the programs and services offered, and to help them determine what volunteer opportunity best fits their schedule and interests.
Training
Volunteer training is available to any potential volunteer who has completed an application and attended Orientation. Each month, Genesis holds a one-hour special training session for new Children's Department volunteers. Hotline training is held quarterly and lasts for seven hours (three-and-a-half hours each night for two nights). Court Partnership training is held every other month. Murphey Sears, Volunteer Coordinator, will schedule training sessions with approved volunteers. Check out the Genesis Calendar for Training dates and times.
