Becoming A Volunteer
The Volunteer Process In order to become a Genesis Women's Shelter volunteer certain steps must be completed.
- Complete the appropriate volunteer application.
Applications can be obtained by downloading the PDF file or by contacting Leona Barnes, volunteer and donations coordinator, at (214) 389-7701 or lbarnes@genesisshelter.org
Download the Volunteer Application
- Mail or fax the application form to
Leona Barnes 4411 Lemmon Avenue Suite 201 Dallas, TX 75219 Fax: 214-559-2361 (please follow-up with a phone call)
- Criminal Background Check
All Genesis employees and volunteers are subject to a criminal background check conducted by the Volunteer Center of North Texas.
- Once your application has been processed our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you about upcoming orientations, and you'll be on your way.
Orientations The goal of orientation is to teach potential volunteers about the agency's structure, the programs and services offered, and to help them determine what volunteer opportunity best fits their schedule and interests. Once you have turned in your completed volunteer application, Leona will contact you about upcoming Orientation dates.
Trainings Volunteer training is available to any potential volunteer who has completed an application and attended Orientation. Each month, Genesis holds a one-hour special training session for new Children's Department volunteers. Hotline training is held quarterly and lasts for seven hours (three-and-a-half hours each night for two nights). Leona Barnes, Volunteer Coordinator, will schedule training sessions with approved volunteers. |
